Shekou International School (SIS) is a purely foreign-owned IB school in Shenzhen, founded in January 1988. As the first international school in Shenzhen, SIS has a long tradition of providing rigorous learning in a caring community. From 12 students in 1988, SIS has grown to nearly 1050 students from 43 different countries, including the United States, Canada, South Korea, Hong Kong, France, Germany, and Italy.
Since 1992, SIS has been accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). This accreditation means that the school is globally recognized and that its students meet the standards for transferring or attending quality schools in the United States or other countries around the world. In 2010, SIS was authorized as an International Baccalaureate World School, offering the IB Diploma Programme.
SIS offers the IB curriculum, which focuses on teaching foundational knowledge, developing students' qualities and abilities, and cultivating their interests and hobbies.
In the kindergarten stage, SIS provides small classes of 12-14 people, professional teachers, a stimulating environment, and a child-centered curriculum that focuses on enhancing children's inner qualities and cultivating their positive qualities of caring for others while having a passion for learning.
In the elementary school stage, the school uses the American International Baccalaureate Elementary School Curriculum. The learning goals of elementary school are to provide children with rich experiences in art, sports, world languages, and extensive after-school activities.
In grades 6-8 (middle school), the core curriculum includes English, math, science, and social studies. These courses can develop students' skills and expand their knowledge so that they can better adapt to challenging academic courses in high school. Students also track their interests through elective courses, extensive extracurricular activities, and "no-walls" classroom courses.
SIS is the only school in Shenzhen that offers both French and German national curricula. The curriculum designed for French and German native speakers aims to help them seamlessly transition to studying in their home country. Non-native French and German speakers (whose native language is English) can prepare for studying at universities in France and Germany through language courses.
The purpose of SIS's extracurricular activities is to provide students with opportunities to develop physical and social skills, experience success, and expand themselves beyond the classroom. Students are encouraged to participate in various school sports events, after-school activities, and extracurricular activities provided by SIS. These activities play an important role in students' overall growth.
SIS provides students with a wide range of extracurricular activities. Generally, most sports activities are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while non-sports activities are offered on Mondays and Fridays (with some exceptions). Most after-school activities offered last for one hour after school, and SIS provides transportation services for all regular bus passengers after activities. Unless otherwise stated, most activities are free of charge.
Based on students' learning situations, various activities that students can choose from may be creative, academic or athletic.
Currently, there are some students at Shekou International School (SIS) using IPISCHOOL for math learning with good results.
Wishing all IPISchool students at SIS better academic performance.
