30 Wrestling Quiz Questions and Answers

Wrestling is a combat sport involving different styles of grappling techniques. The objective is to pin the opponent’s shoulders to the mat, forcing them into a position where they are unable to continue wrestling. Wrestling has origins dating back 15,000 years as one of the oldest combat sports practiced around the world. It rose to popularity as an Olympic event in 708 BC.

There are two main forms of wrestling practiced today – Greco-Roman wrestling and freestyle wrestling. Greco-Roman wrestling involves throws and takedowns without grabbing below the waist or attacking the legs. Freestyle wrestling is the most common form seen in high school and college programs. It allows the use of leg attacks and holds.

Wrestling takes place on a thick mat inside a circled area called a ring or on an elevated platform. Matches consist of periods or rounds between two opponents who must follow strict rules and regulations. Points are awarded based on various moves and holds. Victory is achieved by pinning the other wrestler or winning based on points at the end of the match.
