Skeleton is a winter sliding sport in which an individual athlete rides a small sled down an icy track while lying face down and headfirst. Here is a brief history of skeleton:<\/p>\n

Origins:
\nSkeleton has its roots in the sport of “Cresta Run,” which was developed in Switzerland in the late 19th century. In Cresta Run, riders descended on a toboggan-like sled down an ice track.<\/p>\n

Olympic Inclusion:
\nSkeleton made its first appearance in the Olympic Games in 1928 in St. Moritz, Switzerland. However, it was removed from the program after that year due to safety concerns.<\/p>\n

Revival:
\nIn the late 20th century, skeleton experienced a revival. In 1992, the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) was formed, and skeleton was reintroduced as an official sport. It was included in the Winter Olympics again starting in 2002 in Salt Lake City, Utah.<\/p>\n

Track and Racing:
\nSkeleton races take place on artificially frozen ice tracks that are approximately 1,200 to 1,500 meters long. Athletes propel themselves by pushing off the starting block and then navigate the track’s curves and straightaways, reaching high speeds of around 130 km\/h (80 mph).<\/p>\n

Competitions:
\nThe sport has various international competitions, including the IBSF World Cup and the World Championships, where athletes from different countries compete for medals.<\/p>\n
